Event cleaning service: priced by the crew and the clock, never by the square foot
An event clean has almost nothing in common with the contracts the rates in this record describe. There is no building to measure over a month, no schedule to amortise and no equipment left on site. There is a number of people, a number of hours, and a hard deadline at each end. That is why every honest event quote is a crew-hours quote, and why the per-square-foot figures published here do not apply to one.

Specifying an event clean
- Split it into before, during and after. These are three different crews with three different sizes. The during-event crew is small and continuous, the after-event crew is large and short, and the pre-event crew depends entirely on what the previous tenant of the space left. Quoting them as one number hides which of the three is being under-resourced.
- Fix the handback time, because it sets the crew size. A venue that must be clear by six in the morning and one that has until midday are different jobs at the same square footage. The deadline determines how many people are on site, and the number of people is the price. Name the time in the specification rather than discovering it on the night.
- Say who owns the waste. Bins, liners, collection and segregation are usually the venue's, sometimes the caterer's and occasionally the cleaning contractor's. Whichever it is, write it down, because on an event the cost of nobody owning it is visible to your guests.
- Agree the toilets separately. Washroom servicing during an event is a continuous, staffed job rather than a cleaning round, and it is the single line that most affects how the event is experienced. Price it as attendance hours with a stated frequency and a stated stock of consumables.
Common questions
- How is event cleaning priced?
- By crew hours, almost always, with a minimum call-out. No company in this record publishes an event rate, which is consistent: the published figures here are recurring per-square-foot and hourly rates for occupied commercial buildings.
- Can my regular contractor do it?
- If they can put the numbers on site at the hours you need. Availability rather than capability is the usual constraint, and it is worth asking months ahead for anything large.
- What about overnight and weekend rates?
- Expect them, and expect them to be the reason two quotes differ. Ask for the base hourly rate and the uplift separately so you can see which is which.
